Donation of equipment

You, your company or school would like to donate equipment? Then we ask you to look at this information in advance. Then you will know what we are looking for and how the process works.

Please note that you should contact us via the Service Desk before donating a device (request "Donate laptop). Not all laptops are suitable - and we want to help as well and professionally as possible with suitable equipment. Thank you for helping us with this!

What can be donated?
Answer
We are only interested in laptops. We do not accept other devices.

But we also accept chargers, SSDs and RAM sticks (from 4GB DDR3). So if you want to send us something like that, you are also welcome to get in touch under "Donate components".

What are your requirements for the laptops?
Answer
The laptops have to

  • be bootable;
  • have no display damage;
  • at least 4GB RAM included;.
  • Operating system and manufacturer: Does not matter 🙂

Regarding age: Unfortunately, we can usually no longer use laptops and tablets that are older than eight years. Unfortunately, netbooks (very small laptops) are usually no longer powerful enough for our purposes after about six years due to their lower performance.

If the batteries don't work, that's no big deal. Even a laptop without a battery is much better than no equipment at all. We are happy about every laptop that comes with a charging cable.

The devices do not have to be deleted beforehand and we do not need a password for the reset. If you want to delete the data beforehand, you are welcome to do so. We will simply wipe over it again anyway.

Do you also collect your equipment?
Answer
We will do this if a larger number of devices are donated - we will then look at the situation. Otherwise, the equipment can also be handed in directly or sent to us by post.
Can schools also donate?
Answer
Yes - and here we even give the option that we return a certain percentage of units - cleaned and set up according to our process. There are no additional costs for this. For example, from 100 devices onwards, we offer to return 10% of the delivered laptops for personal use, in case a device is needed at school.

If there are currently no laptops available, but there will be old equipment in the future, you can also let us know - we will get back to you at the appropriate time.

To do this, please submit a request for the donation of equipment to our Service Desk, stating the name of the school, the number and type of equipment. If you are planning to purchase new equipment, you can also tell us when this is due.

Do I have to delete my data in advance?
Answer
You don't have to, but of course you can. In any case, we will clean up your donation again from our side. You can delete data as follows:

Of course, you can also remove the hard drives completely - it doesn't matter to us. Just make sure that your data media are disposed of safely.

What do you do with the devices after you receive them?
Answer
Here's what will happen:

  1. Data deletion with different methods (hdparm and dd)
  2. Setting up a new operating system
  3. Installing the most important software
  4. Final inspection

After that, there's a tutorial on the laptop and then it's put into storage - and hopefully given out again soon.

Can you guarantee the complete deletion of data?
Answer
We are not ISO certified, but internally we have a lot of expertise in data destruction and its methods. We also run a test before every rebuild to ensure that all data is erased. We destroy old HDDs and SSDs are completely purged through our erasure process. We use the NIST 800-88 standard
Do you also repair equipment?
Answer
Nope - we are not a repair service but help people who need laptops. However, you are welcome to hand in your old laptop if it meets the criteria. If you need a new device, we will look for a solution together.

Does it all fit so far?
