Touchscreen and stylus

✏️ Are you looking for the right pen?

Not all of our laptops with touchscreens come with a stylus.

Different types of pens

Passive stylus (capacitive)

Works on any touchscreen – just like a finger, only more precise. No battery, no pairing. Good for navigation and simple inputs, less suitable for writing or drawing.

Passive pens are perfectly adequate for simply jotting down handwritten notes and rough plans or sketches.

Active pen (MPP)

Contains electronic components and responds to pressure and tilt. Significantly more precise and suitable for handwritten notes, but also much more expensive. Not every laptop is compatible with every stylus – and vice versa.

Active pens are only really useful in a few situations, such as when you need to produce extremely precise sketches and plans, or if you work in a profession with a strong focus on graphics.

Does the wLw laptop come with a stylus or not?

👩🏼‍🔧 In general: If we include pens, they should be refillable

We have received a number of laptops that come with active styluses. We do not have any passive styluses.

☑️ Pen included

The school requires pupils to bring their own pens AND Active use of a pen is common (e.g. in graphic design, engineering and assembly roles).

⛔ Pen not included

The school requires pupils to bring their own pens BUT Such a requirement is not proportionate (e.g. gap years, professions without a focus on graphic design).

If we don’t have any devices with active pens ourselves, we won’t be able to send any either. However, this is very rare.

Shopping recommendations

🔍 Only buy if absolutely necessary!

Even if schools require active pens, that doesn’t mean you actually have to use one. Before buying one, be sure to check whether you would actually use it at all.

📑 Check compatibility!

Not every stylus works with every laptop. You need to be particularly careful with active styluses. It’s best to double-check before you buy one.

💸 Compare offers!

A new active pen can quickly end up costing a lot. You can also find second-hand options for this item online, where the price can be significantly lower. But do check the warranty!
