So-called BYOD guidelines (bring your own device) regulate the minimum requirements for devices that are brought into the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-alert\">The term \"vocational school\" is used in the following. All thoughts and considerations apply analogously to all types of secondary schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Basic procedure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Finding the right requirements is not easy these days, as there are many different types of devices and equipment options. The following process can help to create a coherent and future-proof BYOD concept:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Clarification of basic questions about the vocational school itself<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clarification of basic questions about teaching<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clarify your own assistance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drafting the BYOD concept<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Periodic review of the BYOD concept<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Vocational school policy issues<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>It makes little sense to draw up a blanket list of BYOD requirements, especially if a vocational school trains students in different professions. Rather, it would be more targeted here to create appropriate minimum requirements for each job profile. For example, more technical professions are generally reliant on more powerful devices - whereas less powerful devices could fulfil the same purpose for more manual professions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This raises the following fundamental questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What professions do we train?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Which programmes do our apprentices use in class?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What are the minimum requirements?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon\">In most cases, even very simple configurations will suffice. For example, if you mainly work with Office\/Microsoft365 and PDFs, even really manageable performance (Intel i5 from 8th gen, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD) will suffice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Basic questions about teaching<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In many BYOD requirements, one requirement is usually a huge thorn in the side: the mandatory presence of a touchscreen. Devices equipped with such a screen quickly cause the purchase price to skyrocket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It must therefore be weighed up:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is a touchscreen really necessary or just a \"nice to have\"?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do our apprentices even use the touchscreen?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are there disadvantages for apprentices without a touchscreen in certain programmes?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-alert\">Here, too, our experience shows that a touchscreen is only used selectively (if at all) by learners. For certain professions, a touchscreen effectively makes sense in general (construction, assembly or graphic design professions). For others, however, it really doesn't. A simple option would be to list touchscreens as optional requirements for convenience purposes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Own assistance<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on the vocational school, various offers are already available, for example cooperation with platforms such as <a href=\"http:\/\/edu.ch\">edu.ch<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/projektneptun.ch\">projectneptun.ch<\/a>. But there are various other ways to help:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Equipment hire at a contribution towards expenses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial assistance by means of special funding pots<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon\">In many cases, it is not really necessary to provide brand-new devices for the start of an apprenticeship. There are also some second-hand platforms, such as <a href=\"http:\/\/benno-shop.ch\">benno-shop.ch<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/gewa-multimedia.ch\">gewa-multimedia.ch<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-info\">Also a <a href=\"https:\/\/wir-lernen-weiter.ch\/en\/partnerschaften\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"2339\">Partnership <\/a>with Wir lernen weiter could be one of these opportunities. In order to become a partner, vocational schools only need to adhere to a clearly defined process that measures and identifies poverty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Drafting the BYOD concept<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In most cases, the wheel does not have to be invented. It may be easy to find templates or other concepts. The following points are important when writing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Simplicity (prevents excessive demands)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Segmentation according to job profiles (realistic)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>According to the class (not much too high)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-success\">Examples of good concepts follow below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Periodic review<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Self-explanatory. We recommend checking that a BYOD concept that has already been created is up to date every two years. If questions arise before then, we can of course do this earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Create a BYOD concept<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">This is part of the concept<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The following components must be specified as a minimum:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Processor incl. generation (at least 8th generation for Windows 11)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working memory (RAM)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Operating system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Touchscreen (yes\/no\/optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-alert\">We recommend that no specific devices are recommended, as on the one hand the market changes very quickly and therefore students are already sent off on certain models.
