Tobias Schär

My name is Tobias Schär. I live in Merenschwand and have lived in our community for more than 20 years. Besides my work at wLw, I am in the fire brigade and was previously allowed to work as an IT project manager for a few years. On the side, I completed a part-time Bachelor's degree in Business Informatics at the HSLU.

How did I come to wLw?

Well: I founded wLw. The idea came up quickly and unromantically. At the beginning of the well-known crisis, I thought about how all people at home could implement home office / distance learning - assuming that not every household would have sufficient equipment. In the meantime, however, we have realised that digitalisation did not just create challenges for many with Corona. If someone had told me that wLw would achieve such huge growth and impact in such a short time, I would not have believed it. 🙂

Why do I work for wLw?

I feel it is a huge privilege to be able to help others with my daily work. People affected by poverty have a very hard time in Switzerland, because there is a lot of stigmatisation and prejudice against them. Far from everyone is poor by choice - and I do my part to give these people a perspective. Because without a laptop, many everyday things become difficult: for example, attending school, finding a job or integrating.

What do I do at wLw?

As Managing Director, I am responsible for translating the strategic goals of the association into operational terms. I am allowed to manage the entire staff (apart from myself), lead the onboarding of the partners and am responsible for process management as well as quality assurance and data protection.

What is my motto?

Actions instead of words!
