Benjamin Brändli

My name is Benjamin Brändli. I come from Merenschwand and still live there. Besides my work at wLw, I study photonics at FHGR. In my spare time I am in the fire brigade, do sports and make my computer glow. Before my studies, I completed an apprenticeship as an EFZ automation technician.

How did I come to wLw?

I read a newspaper article about the project in the fire brigade chat. Afterwards, I asked if help was still needed. At that time, Tobias was still running the project with his parents. Therefore, I could not help much. However, when he moved and got a dedicated space of the project, I could also help out better.

Why do I work for wLw?

Why not? When I started at wLw, I was on short-time work. So I could dedicate some of my new free time to a good cause. Besides, wLw offered me the opportunity to explore my interests in computers and Linux. If my work helps disadvantaged people to participate better in life, that is another plus for me. The small team at wLw also makes it possible to identify and resolve conflicts more quickly. I also get the freedom to solve technical problems in my own way.

What do I do at wLw?

In the beginning, my job was to prepare the laptops. Meanwhile, I am responsible for the entire IT infrastructure.
If something is not running, I get the rebuke ;-). I make sure that our laptops are up to date and that our forum and the wiki are accessible. I also make sure that internal work is simplified. This is mostly done by automating tedious work steps.

What is my motto?
It's not the number of falls that counts, but whether you get back up again. Never touch a running system 😉
